Advent and Christmas Books

I am joining Jessica for her Advent and Christmas Book Link- up and it is so exciting because I love to read lot of books to our children. I love this time of year for so many reasons and no it is not because of the snow we get.  This time of year gives us a chance to snuggle up together and read books as a family. During the winter months we tend to stay indoors more due to the blowing snow and ice.  Some days we may read 3 or 4 books as a family and then camp out in our sleeping bags next to the Christmas tree. The memories you can build for your children through books is endless, and hearing your little one say “oh mommy I love that book” or “ I remember that book from last year it was one of my favorites” will just melt your heart.  For me reading to my family is also a way of relaxing, it forces me to stop all the things I feel I need to do during the day. As moms we tend to have lists longer then we can do in a single day. Reading with my girls, or listening to my husband read to our girls helps me stop and remember way I do everything I do. Families grow so fast so way not stop and enjoy them, spend extra time this Advent and Christmas building memories for your family through books you won’t be sorry you did.

Here are the books we will be reading this Advent and Christmas. We wrap up our family night time book of the day. Each night we will open another book as we make our way to Bethlehem, to praise the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The girls love this tradition and look forward to it each evening since they have no idea what the book will be.

We always read more than one book in a day, but I don't wrap them all. The next list is a list of all the other Christmas books we have on our home. We will be reading these along with the list above.

The Simple Womens Daybook ~ February 3rd



Outside my window... I, am seeing snow blowers going from the new snow we recived yesterday. We now have 15 inches more to play in. Hannah loves to eat the snow, like I am sure most kids do.  I think at least two of my daughters ate snow the whole two hours they were outside. We had a few more trips to the bathroom last night.

I am thinking... about a big decision we have to make in the next 2 weeks. We will either move to Texas for a new job making better money, or stay where we are.

I am thankful...for my blankets, sounds silly I know but when it is -4, and you are up at 4am praying and typing my blanket is now my best buddy.

From the learning room...  As a family we learned about Groundhog Day, love, friendships, and the Amazon. We also started a new subject this week Sewing, please pray for me I am so clueless on how to sew. We bought this new DVD to help us along. I cannot say enough about this video.

From the kitchen... Our family menu is being made for the rest of the month, this month my oldest daughter will join in and help. She has been waiting to do this for some time.

I am wearing... this cozy phi’s in pink, with another one of my favorite sweaters this time it is a light pink merino wool sweater  so warm and cozy.

I am creating... a menu for Valentine’s Day, and a moving plan I think.

I am praying... for my husband as he tries to make a decision about moving out of state. He has a great job offer making much more than we do here, and within the same company. So really it would be a job transfer from one state to another. I pray the Lord gives him the wisdom and strength to choose the correct path.

I am reading... our family KJV Super Giant Print Bible (Black Genuine Leather - Indexed), Building A Winning Curriculum, and listening to She Shall Be Called Women simply a wonderful set.

I am hoping... to finish this post before next week’s post.

I am hearing... my husband teach my girls, and control the house this morning. My girls are just in love with the fact that daddy is home again. The little girls are playing in the living room with their Fisher-Price Little People Animal Sounds Farm, and daddy's truck from work.

Around the house... I am looking out my window and wondering where all our birds went. I love to watch them during the day.  I am looking at all the hearts around our house; the love that is flowing through my children is a wonderful sight.

One of my favorite things...Knudsen Organic Prune Juice ( 12x32 OZ) , my friend for the past couple weeks.

A few plans for the rest of the week...

• Do monthly grocery shopping.
• Visit our pastor for coffee and talk.
• Make a couple of dishes for our monthly potluck fellowship meal at church.
• Visit with grandma this week

My Day Book Jan 5 ~ A New Year 2011

A New Year has started, and another Christmas is behind us.

Outside my window... I am finally seeing the sunshine. Sunshine seems to be a rare thing around our town; it makes the winters long and extra cold.

Our dog loves it! Crazy Girl!

I am thinking... about all my girls, and today I realized that my job is way bigger than I thought.

I am thankful for... For all the time I will have this month with my husband. He will be home for a whole month, which means mom gets a little rest. I get time to finish all the things I started, and it feels so good. I am even going to plan out my next year of school:)

From the learning rooms... Life is back to normal like it was before our little CJ was born. Math, Grammar, Reading, Phonics, Science and History ect... We will be making a Salt Dough Map today of Israel for Geography, I will post more on that later.

The perfect reason why we took 3 months off of school.

From the kitchen... I still smell my homemade Turkey noodle soup. It was one of those yummy meals that just made you feel all warm and fuzzy. It was a hit, which is a good thing, because we will have it for dinner the next couple days.

Today's lunch.

I am wearing... One of my favorite pairs of pj's. I was given 2 pairs from my hubby this blue cozy flannel pair, and a Pink gown which is just as snuggly. Oh I have a pair of pants on under my gown, and a light blue Merino wool sweater., since our home is very drafty.

I am creating... a monthly menu, and shopping list for the year. I love to be very organized, and my hubby is home all month so why not.

I am praying...that our little CJ feels better soon, and that I receive my backorder from Vision Forum soon.

I am reading... a few books Large Family Logistics, and How God Wants Us to Worship Him. The last book  is being read by my hubby and I.

I am hoping...to get caught up on my grading, since I have fallen behind. We don't keep real grades till middle school, but I still like to keep track. 

I am hearing... Madeyln walk around the kitchen very cold. It took 22 minutes to dress the girls to play outside; Madeyln made it 10 minutes outside, poor baby.

Around the house... I am looking at books everywhere on my office floor, and lots of Christmas decorations up in our home. I just love all the greenery, red bows, nativities, and Christmas books that grace our home.


One of my favorite things... Baby girl cloth diapers, Tiny Tush Elite One-Size Cloth Diaper Aplix (Velcro-type) RASPBERRY PINK. This diapers work so well. We also love the wipes they make. My favorite cover and has been for a very long time is the Organic Caboose Eco-Fleece Diaper Cover - Large. Oh we also love the flip covers Flip - Snap - Stay Dry Insert Individual-Zinnia.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I really have so much I want to do. I need to just break it up into weeks

• Organize by Christmas plans for next year, including-reading lists, and recipe lists.
• Start to take down our Christmas decorations
• Finish my menus for Jan - Lent
• Plan the 3 birthdays we have next week
• Start working on next year's school plans
• Listen to another Dvd from our Bioethics & life Collection
