Preparing for Lent:: Our Family Plans For Lent 2012

Today we start to prepare for Lent. Lent is the season of prayer and penance before Easter. Today I have been getting ready for Lent which starts this Wednesday and I think I have all our plans ready.

The girls love Paczki Day or Mardi Gras each year which falls on the day before Ash Wednesday. On Paczki day we get to eat lots of sweets and Pancakes throughout the day. This year we will be making Apple pancakes, Jelly filled doughnuts and donut muffins made in my New Vitamix,

Ash Wednesday is the official start of the Lent season. We now start to prepare and meditate about the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We will attend Mass and as a tradition we will have the priest place ashes on our forehead. The meaning behind doing this is ancient and is a symbol meaning repentance. We are supposed to repent for our sins, and the ashes remind us that we need to apologize to God for sinning.

The ashes placed on our forehead also remind us that one day we are going to die. We remember that our bodies will turn into dust, but our souls will return to God. Our souls will never die:) What a great reminder of our life to come after death.

Ash Wednesday we will be fasting from meat and I will be serving Black beans and Guacamole Burritos with Spanish rice. If you visit Catholic cuisine you will find so many great Lent recipes for you and your family to try. I think we will add some Pretzels as snacks for today (homemade of course:)).

We have lots Lenten activities planned which we will start on Ash Wednesday. This is a look at our plans for this year.
